Lake Manyara National Park

Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is a compact 330-square-kilometer gem, just 90 minutes from Arusha. A shimmering alkaline lake covers much of its expanse, fringed by groundwater forests, swamps, and grassy plains.

Attractions:

Seek out the park’s famed tree-climbing lions, lounging in acacias, a rare sight in the wild. Vast baboon troops rule the forest, while the lake’s shores blush pink with flamingos. Elephants, giraffes, and over 400 bird species—hornbills, pelicans, storks—thrive in this diverse haven. Canoeing or biking along the trails adds a fresh twist to the safari tale.

Best Time to Visit:

July to October, when the dry season concentrates wildlife around the lake, though the wet season (November to April) brings lush greenery and migratory birds.
