Mount Kilimanjaro

Destination

Mount Kilimanjaro

Rising majestically in northeastern Tanzania near the Kenyan border, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. This dormant stratovolcano, located just three hours from Arusha, spans approximately 1,688 square kilometers within Kilimanjaro National Park. Its snow-capped summit, Kibo, towers over the surrounding savanna, making it a global icon and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Attractions

Kilimanjaro offers climbers a journey through five distinct ecological zones—farmland, rainforest, heath, alpine desert, and arctic summit. Routes like Marangu, Machame, and Lemosho reveal waterfalls, volcanic craters, and panoramic views of the plains below. Wildlife, including colobus monkeys and elusive leopards, thrives in the lower forests, while the summit rewards trekkers with a sunrise over the continent’s rooftop. No technical skills are required, just stamina and spirit.

Best Time to Visit

January to March and June to October, the dry seasons, provide the clearest skies and safest trails for climbing. July to September is peak season for optimal weather, while the wet seasons (April to May and November) bring rain and slippery paths, best avoided.
